mountains are mountains

An old master said, ‘Mountains are mountains and rivers are rivers.’
The meaning of these words is not that mountains are mountains, but that mountains are mountains.

ryokan (1758-1831)

Like the little stream
Making its way
Through the mossy crevices
I, too, quietly
Turn clear and transparent.

legacy

   My legacy -
         What will it be?
               Flowers in spring,
                        The cuckoo in summer,
                          And the crimson maples

     Of autumn ...

sitting quietly

Sitting quietly,
doing nothing,
Spring comes,

and the grass
 grows
 by itself.                      [zenrin kushu]

and another day
 goes by
